Balloon Survey and Beach Cleanup at Jones Beach

Since 2018, this survey has collected data on latex and foil balloon litter in the South Shore Estuary Reserve. To date, they’ve collected over 1,500 balloon materials from this 1 x 1 mile stretch of beach. This critical research helps prove a problem and raise awareness about responsible balloon practices.
Join NYS DEC, NYS Parks, and NOAA Marine Debris Program for their biannual Marine Debris survey and clean up at Jones Beach!
Plan to arrive by 10:00 am. The duration depends on conditions but expect to take 3-4 hours. Gloves, garbage bags, and other equipment needed for the cleanup and survey will be provided.
Ages 12 and up—all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
