HELP US PROTECT LONG ISLAND AND BEYOND

  • Take action with our 5 ways to stop invasive species. See the ways you can help here. Your effort to stop invasive species matters (and we really appreciate it!)
  • Tell us your invasive species story. We want to hear your experience with managing invasive species on your property. Click here to email your story, and add pictures for a chance to be featured on our website and social media!
  • Join our project on iNaturalist. We use community observations in iNaturalist to find new invasive species populations. Join our LIISMA Invasive Finders & Early Reporters (LIFERs) group to help in this important effort!

become a partner

Are you an organization on Long Island, Staten Island, Queens, or Brooklyn? Your group can become a LIISMA partner!

Our entire framework depends on collaboration with our partners across the region. LIISMA is available as a resource to our partners for consultation on invasive species planning and management, and in monitoring sites of high ecological value and emerging invasive species. We provide partners with training opportunities through workshops and webinars, connecting partners with invasive species management strategies throughout New York State. LIISMA coordinates regional data management by training partners in data collection using iMapInvasives, a statewide database developed by the New York Natural Heritage Program, and iNaturalist, an application to record and organize nature findings. We support partners in education and outreach efforts, such as Invasive Species Awareness Week and other programs across the LIISMA region.

Our partners participate in meetings where we share information, updates, and management strategies with one another. Our LIISMA partners’ meetings are open to the public. Contact us to learn more.
