Volunteer to Pull Water Chestnut Aquatic Invasive Plant

Roll up your sleeves and get muddy for a good cause! Join Abby Marino (Program Manager, Long Island Invasive Species Management Area (LIISMA)), Carlos Morantes Ariza (Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Region 1, NYS DEC) and other volunteers in manually removing water chestnut an invasive aquatic plant from affected areas.
Water chestnut is an invasive species that threatens the ecological balance of Long Island’s freshwater ecosystems. This floating plant forms dense mats that outcompete native vegetation, reduces oxygen levels, and impair recreational activities.
No prior experience is necessary – training and equipment will be provided.
